Are You an Indian Then You Should Know About DigiLocker

DigiLocker is a part of the digital campaign run by the Government of India, where citizens of India can secure their necessary documents by uploading to this digital documents locker.


It was started by the Government of India in the year 2015 in December and since then almost 47.37 Million Indian citizens have registered in the whole country. Let me tell you, the documents uploaded from all over India so far is about 4.18 billion. According to the Digilocker report in October 2020, 173 issuer organization are connected to Digilocker.


It is very easy for citizens to use. Digi Locker was released in 2015 through the official website but on 12 july 2020 App for Android version launched DigiLocker, as well as the app launched for iOS version on 5 August of DigiLocker.

What is DigiLocker

DigiLocker is a digital documents wallet app on which you can keep your academic documents, identity certificates, residence papers, driving license, uploading and keeping necessary documents.


After uploading all the valid documents of its importance, it is as important as the original documents. Suppose if you are driving a car and you will be asked to show a traffic police driving license, then you can show a valid e-signed virtual driver license with the help of the DigiLocker app instead of the original driving license paper. Which is absolutely valid by the Government of India. 


One more thing you should always keep in mind that the Aadhaar card validated by DigiLocker will also be valid at any airport or railway station in India. The DigiLocker that uses the security to secure citizens' documents or important information, the 256-bit secure socket layer remains encrypted from end to end.



Five states where people have maximum registration on Digilocker 

Given below are the names of five such states, where the maximum number of citizens register their own profiles on DigiLocker. (According to DigiLocker's report in October 2020)

  1. Maharashtra - 3207070 people has been registered
  2. Uttar Pradesh - 2706354 people has been registered
  3. Gujarat - 2444040 people has been registered
  4. Karnataka - 1993307 people has been registered
  5. Tamil-nadu - 1479550 people has been registered


How to create a DigiLocker account

It is very easy to create an account at DigiLocker, now you can successfully create your account in a few step, just follow the steps given below.



Through website

  • Visit Digilocker's website.
  • Click the sign up button.
  • You will be asked for the Aadhaar number, now you enter your Aadhaar number. (Keep the mobile number linked to Aadhaar with you, because when you enter the Aadhaar number to sign up, the OTP is on your registered mobile number only. Will go)
  • Enter the OTP on the Aadhar card register mobile number.
  • Now a small form will come. In which you have to create a username and password as well as attach a valid email address to DigiLocker. So you fill it correctly according to your needs. And then click on the sign up button to complete this process.

Congratulations you have successfully created your account on DigiLocker.



Through DigiLocker's App

Go to the App Store of whatever operating system mobile you use and then search Digilocker and install it in your phone.


After installing in the phone, open the app, now you will be asked for mobile number, Aadhaar card and username.


Enter the mobile number that is linked to your Aadhaar or you enter your Aadhaar card number.


Mobile number entered or link to Aadhaar card will be receive OTP on mobile number. On receiving the OTP, enter the OTP at the asked location and click on the "Continue" button.


Now you will be asked to create a Username, Password, then you fill it according to yourself, after which you will be asked for an email ID, then you also enter your valid email ID.


Complete this process by clicking on the Sign-up button. Take your account on DigiLocker is ready.

How do I upload my documents to DigiLocker

You can upload your necessary documents at DigiLocker in the format given below.

  • Jpg, Jpeg, Png & Pdf

Upload your required documents to Digi Locker through the app

Open the DigiLocker app >> click the top three line () from the left >> click on the upload document >> click on the upload icon (⬆️) >> select the files >> now any document you want to upload Select and click on Done >> Your document will be uploaded in seconds.



Upload your documents through DigiLocker's website

You can upload your documents through DigiLocker's website in the same way as you do with DigiLocker's app.



What can do

  • To use this app, you must have a valid Aadhaar card.
  • You can upload up to 1GB of data on it.
  • Can upload file size less than 10 MB.
  • You can upload and keep your Aadhar card, Driving license, PAN card, Passport, Educational documents and identity certificate etc.
  • You can use this app in every government office.
  • You can use the DigiLocker app to show your document in private company interviews.
  • Aadhaar card verified by DG Locker is valid for showing to the police at the airport or railway station.
  • DigiLocker App can be used anywhere, anytime.

What can not do

  • Cannot use it incorrectly.
  • Cannot signup on this.
  • The app is not currently available in any of its desktop versions.
  • This app cannot be used without internet.
  • Cannot upload a file that is more than the size limit of DigiLocker.
